Wow, I don't know where to start? Vancouver has once again proven itself to be unable to control itself after a hockey game. It happened in 1994 and it happened again last night. I watched the news until 1:30am and could not believe what I was seeing. 100,000 people in the streets and all it took was a few hundred to get the crowd riled up and all of a sudden all hell broke loose.
I am going to tear this down bit by bit to give a common sense perspective on this situation. First, Vancouver and for that matter all west coast of North America is known for it's ultra-left winged anarchists. They came to the downtown with one thing in mind, to start a riot. These clowns will not stand in a political arena and try to change things the proper way. No, these idiots try to incite others to carry out the majority of the dirty work, and last night it worked. These guys hide behind black bandannas so that they cannot be held accountable, or only hope is that there were enough people around with video running on their phones that they get caught and the police charge them to the full extent of the law. So far there has been no reports of deaths but multiple stabbings, dozens of brutal fights between fans(an in some cases all out brawls), looting, burning of vehicles, businesses and garbage containers. These groups need to be snuffed out or things like this will continue to happen, this is what they want, this is how they think they will change things.
Now the second part of this is the drunken mess that transpired. There were young teenagers, young adults, gangs and everything in between involved in this. This was not and Arab Spring occasion, no one fighting for liberty, justice and freedom, this was a bunch of drunks and anarchists that could not accept the results of a hockey games. In fact I believe it would have happened win or lose, the anarchists got what they truly wanted and had a pissed off fan base to help their cause. What the fans didn't realize is that they were being used as pawns by the anarchists and because of this many of you will spend time in jail, and as you should. Think about the family and friends you embarrassed, think about the city you embarrassed, think about the province you embarrassed, think about the country you embarrassed, think about the game of hockey. Do you feel better about yourself today?? The fans should have gone home and not been pulled into this mess, which brings me to my next point.
The city itself has to be held responsible, from the mayor all the way down to the police. They were not prepared for this, no matter what they try to tell you. They shouldn't have had to "call in" more police and RCMP, these extras should have been on the streets already. In 2004 there was the Red Mile, I was there for games 3 and 4 of the finals and witnessed the whole thing. There was no civil disobedience, there was not fighting, there were a few taken away for being drunk in public but nothing and I mean nothing like this. Calgary just wouldn't stand for it and they came out and said so. There was much more of a police presence on the red mile, cops on horses, cops walking around, cops on roof tops with assault rifles, helicopters and much more. Calgary, you see, was prepared for anything and this is the approach that Vancouver should have taken and because they didn't the chain of command should take the fall. Then was shuts downs of public transit, so many of the fans could not even get out of the downtown area, whoever made this call should lose his or her job. How do you think you are going to control a crowd if you keep them penned in like animals? Let the fans through and let them go home, but at the same extent there were many who simply didn't want to go home. These fans wanted to stick around and watch everything transpire and maybe have a story to tell their children or something. Common sense should have sunk in right away saying "this isn't right, I should not be here" but that never happened which just added to the situation.
As soon as things started getting out of hand there should have been more tear gas, more water cannons and more force shown by the police. But in a city that fancies itself left wing, you will not get that until it is much too late. All this could have been stopped or better yet prevented, had they been properly prepared and the right action plan put in place. Their plan failed miserably and because of that the whole country is feeling embarrassed because your city and fans have made a spectacle of us and the game we dearly love.
Shame on you Vancouver, shame on you Canucks fans, shame on your politicians, you have let us all down and I personally cannot thank you enough for how I am feeling today. It is really hard to believe that you actually made Canada proud with the hosting of the Olympics!
Notice the tag still on the purse? This guy should be charged with looting, public disobedience and more!
