A mediator has been given more time to try to end a contract dispute between Saskatchewan teachers and the province.
Richard Hornung has been working with both sides since he was appointed at the end of May. He had been scheduled to submit a report by the end of June, but Labour Minister Don Morgan says he has now extended that deadline to Friday.
"I'm hopeful that an agreement can be reached within this extended timeframe," Morgan said in a release on Monday.
The Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation is asking for a 16.3 per cent wage increase over three years, while the government has offered 5.5 per cent over three years.
About 12,000 teachers in the province went on strike for three days in May to back contract demands.
